HISTORY

The buildings of Dominican Cloister, among which today´s hotel Gustav Mahler belongs, were found in the very early history of the Jihlava town.

First written notes about the cloister are dated by the year of 1257.
Middle aged cloister was rebuilt in a barogue-style in 17th, and 18th century.

Gothic decorations in the southern part of cloister´s ambit only. The western part of  the cloister, where today´s hotel situated is, has been designed in the barogue style.
It is necessary to mention beautiful ceiling frescos in the refectories, of the cloister that are one of the most important decorations that were saved.

Many historical events happened in the cloister. The meetings of aristocracy,

that influenced the historical movement in the Czech kingdom, were held in today´s hotel.

The army´s occupation of the cloister started in 1781, and ended in 1990.

The cloister was rebuilt as a barrack during that time.

Totally destroyed buildings were under reconstruction during the years of 1992 – 1994.
